What oil? Any recommendetion?

Post by ALBOZ » 28 Sep 2017, 22:31

I need to service my X5 3.0d aut 2005 78000miles but I don't know what oil should I go for?
Castrol edge 5w-30 or Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30?
How many miles does it last before you change again?

Gearbox oil should I change that too?

Thanx for any respond!

5W30 is correct but it's the oil GRADE that's important - you need C3 which is to BMW LL-04 spec. Opinions vary but I don't use overpriced branded oils at all....

Gearbox is sealed-for-life but many find 120k is enough so you should be OK for a while yet....

Engine oil is determined by the type of driving, but 2 years is possible between changes.... The car will tell you!

I've got a 2005 3.0d Auto, which was re-mapped just after I bought it at 80,000 KM
I change oil every 6k and always use Castrol (on all my cars) 5W30
It's still going strong with 265,000 KM now

Gearbox oil I changed first at 100k and now generally change it every 60k and it's as sweet as a nut :d
