BMW E63 or E64 front dipped beam bulb change - HOW TO

Post by Lewy » 21 May 2012, 18:53

Hi all,

Just thought I'd drop a how to on changing the front dipped beam light bulb as it's not as straight forward as expected:

Firstly you'll need the wheel off as you can only access the dipped beam from inside the arch

Then find the cover' which can be unscrewed using your socket set, note the 2 bolts at the top:

Once the cover is off then unclip the seal:

This will expose the unit which needs to be twisted anticlockwise to remove, note there is a small wire which by doing this is also released:

Then see the part which holds the bulb in place, also turn anticlockwise to remove:

Slide your old bulb out and carefully replace with your new bulb, then reverse the above process:

Put your seal and covers back on and you're away! Job's a good'n! Any problems drop me a PM and I can help you :-bd

Sadly not as you already know, the ballast is gone, but still, that's how you change the light bulb...

Seeing as Lewy is incapable of fixing a simple non working dipped beam I thought I'd have a go......

I switched the ballasts and hey presto the faulty light now works, just got to order a replacement ballast - ebay here we come!
