E61 530d turbo pipe replacement

Post by jay_tht » 31 Jan 2018, 21:36

Hello I notice that I have split in one of the turbo pipes that goes in to the EGR so as you look at the engine on the right-hand side See attached photo).

I have a new pipe on it way to me so a job to do Saturday morning.

I notice that the pipe has metal bands around it to hold the rubber pipe n place, now how is the best way to get the old rubber pipe off. Well I need to cut off the metal band or is there a magic way.

New pipe has steel clamps with it.

Just really asking is there tips on how to go about changing the pipe.

Cheers

Jay

As you have replacements, I'd just cut the existing ones off with a Dremel.

pipe replaced, but seem to have a boost problem in that in 3rd gear gets to 3500rpm and that's as far as it goes 4th 3000rpm then 5th and 6th about 2500rpm.. Seems to bog down. :-? :-?

1st and 2nd gear seems ok on the revs.

So looks like I need to check the other pipe to see if any split to and maybe make sure that the new pipe is on right.

no warning lights on the dash.

If a pipe was leaking, I'd expect the same issue regardless of gear selection?

that's what I would think if its a other split pipe it be down on power all gears. strange I had a look last night and the rest of the pipes seem ok.

I guess I get it booked in to TWG or Chris Plummer Automobiles to have a look at.

Yup - worth £40 to get the codes read/cleared. I believe there is a boost-control module specifically for the turbo unit which could be faulty.
