E91 idrive firmware update without USB interface.

Post by Jnapier » 17 Jun 2016, 00:45

Hi there, is it possible to update the idrive firmware via DVD at all, i have the pro sat nav sytem in my E91 but no USB interface. I have contacted BMW but they say they dont know!

Any ideas?

Essentially I cant find anywhere on-line that would tell me the benefits of upgrading etc so I dont know if its worth it.

One thing that is annoying is that I cant do 7 digit postcode searches using a pro nav dvd i bought off ebay. The guy I bought it from said it would give me various instructions during installation but I dont get anything and when I do try a 7 digit it only allows me to search min 25 miles and max 125 miles.

He sent me a replacement disk however this has not helped the issue. He thinks its my firmware that needs updating.

The 7 Digit postcode list should be listed in Points of Interest - Points of Interest>OnLocation>7 Digit Postcodes

You sure you have no USB, have you checked the glove box ?

As far as I know you cannot update CIC from DVD only CCC will update from DVD.
One word of warning -
Do not try and update over the OBD port unless you have a 12v continuous 80A power supply to connect to the car to maintain the voltage level, it will take a very long time and if the battery level drops below 11.8v it will fail to flash it leaving you with a nice doorstop headunit.

I know very little about these, but every nav update I've installed has had the firmware included and auotmatically installs/updates at the same time as the nav.
