E91 Wing Mirror

Post by Glen » 08 Nov 2017, 19:04

Just bought a 2011 E91 330D.The n/s wing mirror is loose and will only work in the vertical mode also the glass heater is not working. The o/s is all OK. Anyone got an idea what I will need to purchase to repair it. The motor costs an arm and a leg so I don't want to buy one unless I have to. Thanks.

Need more info!!

What is 'loose' and what only works in 'vertical' mode............what is vertical mode? Folded in or out!!

For that matter - what does 'work' mean? Adjust?

The glass can only be moved by hand in the horizontal plane but is moved by the electric motor in the vertical plane. As I said the heater does not work. Thanks

Sounds more like a dodgey connection, or a broken wire. It might pay to remove the interior cover on the door behind the mirror and have a look at the wires. The generation before it(E46) had a similar problem with its ribbon connectors, they would deteriorate and gradually you would lose control of the mirror functions one by one.

As above, plus potentially the mirror glass fitment is damaged.

I changed a glass on mine and had that problem.
It was not clipped on properly me being over careful fitting it (don't like glass i break it).

Thanks to all. Have got a second hand glass and motor (both working)for a reasonable price,I will get them fitted and then find out if it is the wiring.
