My son's first car.....

Post by Bin-The-L-Plates » 12 Mar 2017, 22:27

I had the pleasure of the discarded works pickup from my Dad's company as the guys who worked for him refused to drive it, a sign of family affection if ever there was one. So my first 'car' was a rust bucket death trap in a Mini Pickup.
Jump forward 33 years and it shows how much car technology has advanced in that my son can boast an Alfa Romeo has his first ride.
Admittedly it's not some super car, but with a budget of £3k and the burden of being 18 years old and insurance an expensive necessity, he's a nice set of wheels amongst the dull selection of Fiesta/Corsa/Polo fodder of his college mates.

He passed his test 3 weeks ago and we've taken our time checking out loads of possibilities, and there's plenty of hideous rubbish out there. Some he can't even get his long legs into and the requirements of getting his golf clubs in the boot making it even harder.
Found this on Autotrader, 59 plate Alfa Romeo Mito 1.4 16v Lusso with 58k miles and only 2 previous owners. (The last a suspicious death Police detective). Bang on budget and bizarrely cheaper to insure than a lot of other run around we'd considered.
Loaded with kit in comparison to everything else...... 7 Airbags, Disc Brakes all round, Elec Windows, Air Con and Alfa's DNA drive system which lets you select the driving mode. Full service history and cam belt changed, so hopefully it'll be good for a few years of driving.
Typically I spend most of the day cleaning it and the weather turns against me at the arty photo shoot......

Nice, how does the insurance compare to the usual first car fodder?
