i3 Rex engine warning light and OBD port location

Post by emver » 09 Oct 2017, 22:22

I'm not sure if there are many i3 owners on this forum, but I'll post this anyway.

The engine warning light has come on on our i3 Range Extender. The petrol engine on our vehicle is rarely used and I doubt whether it has run for more than a few hours in total since new.

At this moment the car shows a petrol range of around 70 miles and an electric range of around 50 miles. The petrol engine never starts up unless the electric range is below 10 miles, from memory. So at the moment the petrol engine isn't required.

Any ideas as to what could cause the Check Engine Light to come on? I've read that it was a very common problem with i3 Rex models in the US, probably fixed by a software update. Have any UK owners experienced similar problems or had software updates?

My second question relates to the first. I want to plug in my code reader to investigate any fault codes, but I can't find any sign of the OBD port. It should be somewhere between the steering whell and driver's door, but there's nothing! Can anybody help?

Many thanks for your reply Ray, but in my car that cover flap just isn't there on either side. I'll check with Sytners tomorrow.
Regards
Mike

I've spoken to Sytners and it seems that there's a recall or an update relating to this issue, so the car is booked in for later this month.
