Full Digital Cockpit

Post by jonnysailor » 02 Apr 2018, 20:18

I have a 2017 F32 420d which has the new full digital cockpit. This is fine except that in daylight hours, the illumination of it is controlled by a sensor (located just above the oil temp gauge) and the driver has no control of it at all. Night time illumination IS controllable for brightness by the usual rotary wheel by the light switch. This daytime auto-brightness is useless. Most of the time, it is far too dark and the iDrive centre screen is particularly bad - very very dark. I've tried to get this re-coded to either over-ride it (so it's a constant brightness) or by having control put on to the rotary wheel, but without success. Anyone else agree and/or advise it it can be re-coded? Thanks..!

Is there no control within the iDrive normally brightness of screen is in there somewhere.
What have you tried coding, there will be settings in HU_NBT, maybe KAFAS maybe KOMBI (and probably FEM) look for anything to do with RLS sensitivity.
It is possible that the sensor itself is faulty or needs calibrating so have you spoken to your dealer about it.

Hi - thanks for the reply- The dealer says its working fine and that the auto-dimming "Is A Safety Feature". Anyway, I'll pass on your info to the chap who's tried to do a recode without success. I'll let you know, but thanks again.

Tell your coder to do this.

Go to

HU_NBT2 - 3005 Display PIP Info - DIM_VARIANT

Value will be set to NEW - change the value to OLD

the in iDrive you should have just Brightness setting instead of Brightness at Night

He tried that coding apparently when I saw him Saturday and it didn't work unfortunately. He is now trying to find another solution. I might try another re-coder if I can find one reasonably local. Thanks for the help/advice though!

Thanks for the suggestions but alas, all to no avail - none of it worked. He (the coder) reckons that the software has been made non-accessible by BMW and the feature cannot be altered/over-ridden. Shame, as its an awful system. I have found another re-coder however, and I will try him next week.
