2010 BMW 520 iDrive

Postby BMW-Tony » 16 Oct 2017, 18:04

So I'm new to BMW, loving the car but a couple of questions about the iDrive...

My Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge will pair then immediately drop off and won't re-pair until deleted. Then drops off again on re-pair. The phone pairs up to my other car and previous car with no issues, and an old S3 pairs up to the iDrive system. Anyone got any suggestions to get my S7 Edge paired up? Or maybe a software update to the iDrive?

No USB port to play music from a usb memory card. Can this be retrofitted at all? I tried burning a DVD with all my music in MP3 format but it won't work, so had to burn a couple of MP3 CD's. Is this a standard function for MP3 DVD's not to work?

Thanks all :-)

There's a lot of stuff on the web about BMWs not 'liking' Android and I can't see a silver-bullet solution - you'll have to research it, I'm afraid. My guess is that as it's a 2010 car the phone prep software needs updating for a more modern phone that wasn't around in 2010. Might be worth a call to your local indie?

I'm surprised you haven't got a USB port, they were pretty much standard since around 2007/8 - it's usually on the rear 'wall' of the centre armrest?

Great detailed reply there, thank you :-) Definitely no USB port in the armrest OR glovebox. There's an aux port and that's it. I can connect an old Samsung S3 up no problem with bluetooth. BMW reckon the unit can't be updated to newer software......

Sadly that doesn't surprise me - BMWs and cellphones have never been compatible!! A Parrot handsfree kit might be the most cost-effective and practical solution?

Looks like Parrot is the route I'm taking. BMW confirmed no updates available. Going to a Parrot kit with USB support to save keep changing CD's as well...

So it looks like it's not possible to fit a Parrot kit to this car? Does anyone know exactly where the Bluetooth module is located? I'm going to remove it and see if I can order a new module. It's not by the rear fuse box or under the carpet with the battery. Anywhere else I need to look?

They're usually in the boot , left hand side, behind the liner, but have a distant recollection they're behind/under the rear seat on the F10 range?..........

Had an interesting call from my local BMW dealer on Friday. They’re now say there’s a software update available so should fix the Bluetooth connection issues. Dropping car off Monday morning so lets see.....

Result! Full vehicle software update carried out by BMW today. Cost £168 but the Bluetooth now functions correctly and as it should do :-)

Glad to hear it fella. Don't you miss the days when things just worked as they should from the factory?
