Although we would recognise ourselves in this way, it's up to the insurers whether they recognise us (or any other). My guess is that it will vary between underwriters.Ldridge wrote:Mines up in November, will keep this in mind ! Re: Please do give Prestige a try
I have been trying very hard to give them a try but to no avail.
I phoned every day for 8 days to try for a quote but no luck.
When I did get through I was just told they were busy and to hold, so I held for 20 mins then gave up.
The last time I called was at 6pm and was told the under writers have gone home so someone will call me in the morning, that call never came.

Just tried to get a quote for the last time but just goes straight to answer phone stating the office is now closed even though they state they are open between 9am-5pm.
It shouldn't be this hard to give away your money!

Re: Please do give Prestige a try
I'm rewriting this as my initial review was slightly unfair to Prestige.
The good:
Low excess
The bad:
The charge for using a credit card to pay the full premium is high compared to other insurers. For example, I was quoted around £600 and I was charged around £30 for using a credit card to pay the full premium. I also feel that the cancellation charge during the 14 day grace period is too high as well. I cancelled my policy after 3 days due to my current insurer offering me a better deal with mods. I was charged £70 to cancel (£20 for the insurer, £50 for Prestige). Compared to other insurers, that's quite a lot. So it's fine if you don't plan to cancel and if you're using a debit card (I don't know what their rates are on monthly repayments so I can't comment there).
This is just one case so don't judge them based on one experience as they have some good reviews. Here's my story though. I bought a car that came with mods. The mods are just a rear valence and an upgraded exhaust. However, the exhaust is not performance-enhancing. I got some quotes from the price comparison websites for the car, both without the mods declared and with them. Without the mods I was getting around £420. With the mods checked I was getting around £620. Those sites don't distinguish between mods unfortunately so they're not representative. I called Prestige hoping that they'd find me a better deal considering the mods weren't performance-enhancing. They beat the best quote with mods by a few pounds, although with the credit card charge it came to about the same price as my best quote. However, since the excess was much lower I decided to go with them. I then called Sainsbury's to cancel my existing policy. Whilst I was on the phone I asked them to check how much my premium would go up due to the mods, expecting it to rocket, so they asked what mods they were. The valence makes very little difference but they had three options for the exhaust upgrade. It turns out that the option to add the valence and a non-performance exhaust added nothing to my policy, which gave a premium closer to the best quotes that I was getting through the comparison sites without mods. The main issue that I have was that the guy I spoke to at Prestige didn't ask what the mods were and he simply retrieved a quote that beat the best quote with mods from the comparison sites by a small amount. In my view, an insurer that specialises in insurance for modded cars should have enquired about the mods (like Sainsbury's did). I'm gutted at myself for not checking with Sainsbury's before taking up a new insurance. Dumbass springs to mind and I had to pay £70 to cancel my insurance with Prestige.
I wouldn't not recommend them as it looks like they can save people a lot of money. What I would advise is that you do your homework first, unlike me. When you're running your details through price-comparison websites, I would suggest not selecting your mods and then call the companies that gave you the best quotes and discuss the mods with them over the phone. In the case of Sainsbury's, if a mod doesn't enhance the performance of the car then it doesn't affect the premium. Price-comparison websites are extremely limited if you've got mods on the car so you have to do some work yourself. After you've got THE best quote by working them, give Prestige a call to see what they can do. If they can beat it, even if it's only a small amount, then the smaller excess would make it worth it.

I asked the manager of the team to look into this & he listened to the phone call. His reply to me in his email was -
The client is asked, “Is the vehicle modified?”. To which he replies yes and then the modifications are stated. There is even a conversation regarding the rear valance as the agent tries to clarify exactly what the modification is to which the client provides a reply based on the rear bumper being modified to accommodate the exhaust.
Sorry for the delay in replying but I wanted to get this checked first.
Kind regards
Tim
