Keep E53 or change to E70, which one?

Keep E53 or change to E70, which one?

Postby chrislux » 21 Nov 2017, 12:18

I'm in a position where someone wants to buy my E53 3.0d and I have a choice of 2 E70 3.0d's with 245PS and I'm in dilemma as to whether to change.

We've had the E53 nearly 10 years, re-mapped it when bought it to 272PS / 525NM and done 275,000KM of untroubled time in it, but it's still a great car and goes very well indeed.

I have choice between 2008 with 6-speed auto with 125k KM or 2012 with 165k KM and 8-speed auto
Both have mostly same sorta extras except 2008 has Moonroof, 2012 does not. 2012 has some sort of adaptable suspension?, 2008 doesn't.

I'm being offered EUR 10,500 for mine, the 2008 is EUR 22,000 the 2012 EUR 24,500 so I basically have to find between EUR 10-15k

What do you guyz think? Is there a big difference between E53 and E70? (I've not driven an E70)
Is the E70 a much better vehicle?
Is it worth making the switch or do I keep the E53 (which I wudn't mind at all)

Answers on a postcard please :)

I can't offer you any insight into E53 vs E70, but I would only ever change any vehicle if I really wanted to.

Any time I've changed cars it's been because I've really wanted what I have changed to. From what you've put above it seems like you feel pushed into it due to someone wanting your E53?

Head and heart play a role each!!

I've only had a short drive in a 70 so can't compare, but expect they're not vastly different. So...........

You've a lot of known history with the 53 and as far as we know it's not starting to 'age' - it probably also owes you nothing so if it does expire or become uneconomical it's not the end of the World.

Depreciation and the 'unknown' on the alternatives?

Unless you're bored or just fancy a change, I'd stick with the current one and bank the difference!

Prefer the E53, so would have to be a really good offer for me to part with it.
